When this comes round again

Cumberland Council publishes Medical Equipment & Pharmaceuticals work continuously — 9 notices, roughly one every 61 days. This is a stream to watch, not a cycle to wait for.

75% of Cumberland Council’s awards go to a supplier it has used before.

Which is the argument for getting on the list rather than winning this one. The incumbent is rarely the last winner — it is the roster. See the retention odds by category →

The brief

Cumberland Council is recommissioning its Daily Living Equipment Service and is seeking supplier input to help shape the future delivery model.

We expect our new service to be in place from 11 November 2026.

We currently use the retail model, where individuals assessed by the council or NHS receive a prescription for simple aids / equipment to support daily living and then redeem their prescription at one of contracted retailers.

However, we are keen to understand the various options available and would welcome responses from all interested suppliers, including those that operate online-only, don't have a physical retail location in Cumberland etc.

For further details and to access the pre-market engagement documents, use the council's online procurement portal - The Chest - https://www.the-chest.org.uk.

Registration on The Chest is free.

Deadline for submissions has been extended to 17:00, Friday 31st July 2026
